An itinerary designed for families (adult average age 37) who want an action-filled holiday where they can enjoy activities together. During their stay, they can go scuba diving or snorkelling, try other water sports and visit theme parks. They can explore the country together actively, as well as have some quiet, relaxing time at the beach to rest and reconnect.

Day 1

Essence of Doha

Morning / afternoon

1. Wander through iconic Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) and MIA Park

Begin your tour at the famous Museum of Islamic Art, an architectural wonder designed by Pritzker prize-winning architect I.M. Pei, covering 14 centuries of Islamic art and artefacts. The museum comprises four floors of permanent and temporary exhibitions, a gift shop, a café and the haute cuisine restaurant IDAM by renowned chef Alain Ducasse, on the fifth floor. Afterwards, relax and enjoy the surrounding MIA Park where you can stroll, enjoy public art, gardens and cafés and take in the Doha skyline from the best vantage point in the city.

2. Experience the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ)

Be awed by the desert-rose inspired National Museum of Qatar, where interactive displays bring the country’s past to life. Built around Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al-Thani’s original palace, the National Museum of Qatar charts the country’s history and progress through the centuries. While on-site, enjoy rotating activations of the museum courtyards, fabulous cafés, and unique shops. 


3. Stroll through vibrant Souq Waqif and the Gold Souq 

Built on the site of Doha's century-old trading market, Souq Waqif's winding alleys with merchants selling traditional garments, spice and handicrafts remain an important part of daily life in Qatar. The newly renovated souq now also offers a myriad of restaurants, coffee shops and lounges. Souq Waqif is also home to the Falcon Souq, where you can see the majestic birds up close and pose with a falcon perched on your arm. Continue the tour to the Gold Souq across the street whre all that glitter is, in fact, gold. Shoppers can find a rich variety of jewellery, both traditional and contemporary pieces, at competitive prices.

4. Try the local cuisine in one of a myriad of souq eateries

Relish a sumptuous meal at one of the many unique and traditional eateries in Souq Waqif, with both indoor and outdoor dining options.

Desert adventures

1. Take a full-day trip to the Inland Sea/Khor Al Udaid

Start your day with a visit to the impressive 'Inland Sea' or Khor Al Adaid, a UNESCO Heritage Site and one of the few places in the world where the sea encroaches into the desert. For a truly authentic desert experience, nothing beats a camel ride over the soft dunes before embarking on an exhilarating desert safari over the dunes to Khor Al Adaid, accessible only by 4x4 vehicles. Sandboard along the dunes, or hit the dunes on a quad bike, ATV or dune buggy. Prefer a bird's eye view? Paragliding, kitesurfing and more are readily available. Before you head back, enjoy a traditional meal in a Bedouin camp for a complete desert experience.

As an add on to your day, head to Al Shaqab equestian center where you will learn all about Arabian horses and the vital role they play in Qatar’s history and tradition. You can arrange a family guided tour, where you can watch the animals exercise, swim, train, and get groomed.

3. Relax back at the resort

Head back to your resort where the family can unwind and play at the hotel pool and beach. 


4. Evening walk along the Corniche and dhow boat (dinner) cruise (for city resorts)

End your day with a gentle jog or a long stroll along the Corniche against the backdrop of Doha’s stunning skyline. From the Corniche, take a trip on a traditional wooden dhow boat to feel the authentic vibe of Qatar. You may also pre-arrange to have dinner on the dhow, and enjoy a traditional meal on Doha's waters.

Qatar's marine life

Morning / afternoon

1. Whale shark excursion (seasonal)

Start your day with an excursion to see the whale sharks of Qatar. Each year, hundreds of whale sharks congregate in the Al Shaheen region off the northeast coast of Qatar. On this voyage, you will be among the first to see them in Qatari waters. While these magnificent creatures are the biggest fish in the ocean, they are also the most gentle and majestic creatures you will find underwater.

Kitesurfing lessons

Kitesurfing or kiteboarding is a popular watersport in Qatar; many local tour operators and 5-star hotels with private beaches offer the experience. You can choose the location of your choice from Fuwairat, Zekreet, Simaisma and Wakra beaches.  

Traditional fishing or pearl diving trip 

Gear up to experience Qatar's oldest profession, pearl diving, or spend your day on an exciting traditional fishing trip.

2. Kayaking trip at Al Thakira Mangroves

Take a ride to the Al Thakira mangroves near the coastal city of Al Khor, offering incredible opportunities for kayaking and bird watching in pristine waters. The unspoilt sandy beaches dot the peninsula in this region and offer a haven for everyone in the family.

Nature meets art

1. Half or full-day trip exploring Zekreet area

Venture out on a tour of the Zekreet area, a village in north-western Qatar near Dukhan and about 80 km north-west of Doha. Nestled between limestone rock formations outside Zekreet and Ras Abrouq Nature Reserve, you will find Richard Serra's East-West/West-East installation, comprising four steel plates, each of which is over 14 m in height, and spanning over 1 km. It stands in stark contrast to the soft brown hues of the desert surrounding it and offers a comment on isolation and the passage of time. Other highlights of the tour includes rock climbing,  exploring Film City and visiting an Arabian oryx sanctuary, a breeding farm for Qatar's national animal.

2. Kitesurfing in Zekreet

While in Zekreet, organize a kitesurfing adventure for the whole family. Zekreet Kite Beach features a huge lagoon with shallow waters and a closed bay, providing the optimal conditions to learn and improve your kitesurfing skills.

Stop along the way at popular spots, including 5/6 Park, Katara Cultural Village and Lusail Marina District and enjoy the picturesque views the city has to offer.
