40 journalists from German speaking markets in Qatar for launch of DER Touristik’s Summer 2020 catalogue
Qatar National Tourism Council welcomed leading European B2B tour conglomerate DER Touristik to Qatar, for the launch of its 2020 Summer catalogue. Held at Sharq Village & Spa, Doha the event was attended by officials from QNTC, Der Touristik as well as journalists from QNTC’s priority German speaking markets. Visiting journalists will enjoy a variety of cultural and adventure experiences to familiarize them with the destination.
German speaking countries are a prime source market of visitors for Qatar. In 2014, QNTC opened its representative office in Munich, which has been working closely with international partners to build interest in Qatar as a destination, for both leisure and business events. In the first three quarters of 2019, Qatar has witnessed an increase of 59% in the number of visitors from Germany, Austria and Switzerland as compared to the same period last year. A large part of this increase came from cruise visitors, with the 2018/19 season recording a 141% increase in German passengers over the previous season.
Mr Rashed AlQurese, Chief Marketing Officer at QNTC said, “German markets are important to Qatar, and we are pleased to welcome Der Tour and members of the media for the launch event of their seminal brochure. We have witnessed a strong growth in the number of visitors from German markets, and we hope our strong partnerships with entities such as DER Touristik continue this upward trend.”
“Qatar is an uprising destination”, says Dr. Ingo Burmester, CEO DER Touristik Central Europe. “Its significance will increase in the years to come.” DER Touristik has long featured a large portfolio of Qatar products via its brands Dertour and Meiers Weltreisen and with the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ approaching, DER Touristik anticipates a strong growth in demand for the destination.

About Qatar National Tourism Council (QNTC)
Qatar National Tourism Council’s mission is to firmly establish Qatar on the global map as a place where cultural authenticity meets modernity, and where people of the world come together to experience unique offerings in culture, sports, business and family entertainment.
QNTC’s work is guided by the Qatar National Tourism Sector Strategy (QNTSS), which seeks to diversify the country’s tourism offering and increase the sector’s contribution to Qatar’s economy by 2030. In 2017, the Next Chapter of QNTSS was launched, charting the next five years (2018-2023) of the tourism sector’s growth.
In 2018, QNTC launched a global destination campaign under the tagline 'Qatar, Qurated for you.' Curating requires professional or expert knowledge to select, organise and present unique experiences. As such, the Qurated campaign plays on the word's definition and the destination brand's iconic Q to underscore the country's focus on delivering tailored visitor-centric experiences.
Since launching QNTSS, Qatar has welcomed over 12 million visitors. The economic impact of the tourism sector in Qatar is becoming increasingly visible with 2017 estimates showing a total (direct and indirect) contribution to Qatar’s GDP of 6.6%.
