Qatar 2006 Arrives in Doha

The Formula I Maxi Cat Yacht, Qatar 2006, formerly Maiden II, the fastest yacht in the world has arrived in its new home of Doha, Qatar.  The arrival of this magnificent yacht is a first in Middle Eastern History and marks the start of a new era in ocean sailing.

Two events, The Oryx Cup 2005 and The Quest 2006 - officially launched during the Qatar Sports International (QSI) exhibition this year - are designed for the fastest sailing yachts in the world.  Beginning and ending in Doha, the first event in February 2005 will see multihull yachts circumnavigate the globe before returning to Doha while the second event will be made up of multi and single hull yachts and will begin right after the end of the Doha Asian Games in December of 2006.

The yacht, Qatar 2006, is Qatar's own official entry and its crew have an unprecedented track record holding 56 World records and 27 Circumnavigations between them. Originally named Club Med and then Maiden II, this magnificent yacht has consistently broken records and brought Ocean Racing into the media spotlight as never before.Qatar 2006 arrived on Tuesday, 4 May, skippered by a world renowned skipper Sir Robin Knox Johnston KBE, where it sailed past the Corniche and into the Marriott Marina. This was the first chance for the people of Qatar to see their country's entry and what magnificent and awe-inspiring events The Oryx Cup and The Quest will be.

Having been repainted and liveried in the Qatar colours, the boat provides an amazing marketing and advertising vehicle, not just commercially, but also culturally. Highlighting the diversity and growth within Qatar and linking new business opportunities through unique hospitality events and on going media interest.
